Vegan in Pärnu, Estonia

When you find a wonderful restaurant and end up going there again on your short stay.. That’s what happened when I was in Pärnu, Estonia – I visited Kohvik ‘café’ Kroon for lunch on consecutive days. I found out that this is one of the few ‘vegan-friendly’ restaurants in this small town.

UPDATE: 2024 The restaurant has closed down after 19 years in business 🙁

Vegan Menu

On my first visit to Kohvik Kroon, I found out that they not only have several vegan options but a whole separate vegan menu. This was a good surprise. I’d prefer if all restaurants serving non-vegan food would have separate vegan menus. To be honest, none of us really wants to see the absurd stuff listed on non-vegan menus.

Their vegan menu was impressive – with a variety of foods from local veganized delicacies to fast food. There were dishes including vegan foie gras and caviar – stuff that I’d not tried before and didn’t know what to expect. On the first lunch, I ordered the snack platter and a vegan burger.

I loved the little red bell-peppers which I filled with the sweet onion jam and popped in my mouth. The faux gras spread was delicious and had with the toast. I also had a glass of their Farmer’s red wine (V), recommended!

On the next day I stopped by here for brunch before leaving town. Ordered a large oatmilk cappuccino and a lighter meal of potato pancakes, which came with vegan caviar and vöner!

Vöner is a seitan based plant meat made in Finland. The house made caviar was very interesting, small red coloured balls which didn’t taste like anything really 😀 This and the potato patties made this dish quite filling for me so I didn’t order anything more to eat.

They also offer biodegradable packaging for take-away. Elegant and pleasant interiors and friendly service.

Other vegan options in Pärnu (updated 2024):

  • Liana Kohvik [Rüütli 36, Pärnu, Estonia 80011] – the only vegan café in town! Central Pärnu
  • Pastoraat [Kuninga 30, Pärnu, 80014 Estonia] – vegan brunch options! Part of a boutique hotel but open to the public.

  • Steffani – find a vegan pizza at this pizzeria!

  • Punkt 13:15 – more vegan pizzas available here.

Needless to say, I will need to visit this small town once again to check out the new options on offer, as a lot has changed in the last 4 years!

  1. Unfortunately it seems like they have closed down now. I’m typing this right after I walked up there and saw the place was being renovated and a big banner advertising salsa/bachata studio was in the window. I was very excited to try it but alas

    • Oh no! I had checked a few months ago that they were still in business. But now saw their Facebook post saying that they closed the restaurant in July, after 19 years. Such a shame, it was a lovely restaurant. Thanks for the info, I will update this post.
