MOD Santorini – Vegan Boutique Hotel
Firostefani, Santorini 847 00, Greece

MOD Santorini is here and it’s made-of-dreams! Santorini’s first vegan hotel is officially opening for you all this September. We were invited by the amazing people behind MOD, to come stay and enjoy (all-vegan) hospitality on this very popular and unique Greek island. We travelled to Santorini to be the first to stay at MOD! Read about the hotel and our experience in this post.
The Hotel
A family run boutique hotel, first built in the early 80s when tourism was just developing on the island, MOD is now undergoing a makeover and ready for a brand new life..
MOD is an adult only hotel with 4 double rooms in total. 2 sea-facing with jacuzzi, 2 facing the streets of Firostefani. UPDATE June 2022: They now have a Garden View Apartment with kitchenette, which is family friendly!
The owners are a couple – Argiris and Christina. Argiris is a Santorini local and Christina a Greek-Australian. In love with the island, Christina travelled to Santorini for many years before meeting Argiris and then moved to Santorini a few years ago.
You will have all the help you need with your stay on the islands from them. We got the best tips and suggestions so our stay went smooth! Christina can also help plan your tours and activities on the island. Trust me, it’s easier if you have the help of someone who speaks some Greek. It was great to get help from locals who know the island since this was our first visit and we didn’t have much time to research and prepare beforehand (due to the uncertain nature of the trip).
The Location
The location of the hotel is great and practical, not in the crowded main central town Fira, but a 10 minute walk away. The village is an extension of Fira and known as Firostefani. MOD is easily accessible by road. Santorini Airport is 10 minutes away by car. Christina picked us from the airport when we arrived!
The main bus station of Fira is a 15 minute walk from MOD. You can get to the caldera walking route by foot in a matter of minutes. Oh, did we enjoy those sunset walks and dine outs by the caldera’s edge and then the walk back to the hotel. You can do the hike to Skaros rock (highly recommended) and Oia starting from the hotel. Imerovigli village near Skaros is a 20 minute walk.
The Suite
Beneath a starlit ceiling, on a bed set in stone..

Modern luxury combined with traditional charms.
This was our room. The first one to be ready and the first to be stayed in! The suite was simply fabulous. The design and lighting is wonderful. There is also a private balcony with the room. We didn’t use it due to the heat. The sturdy doors and windows have good soundproofing and there’s no disturbance inside. We thoroughly relaxed in our suite – the bed was super comfy too.
Nothing like coming back to your cool hotel room after a hot day in Santorini. Also like the fact that we didn’t have to deal with keys – the doors have a security code system. There may be some changes to how the suite looks, since decorative items and stuff were yet to arrive. But we like minimalism too!
Vegan hotel – not only because they offer animal-ingredient free breakfasts and menus but because they don’t use any animal skins, fur etc. in the interiors and all materials are cruelty-free as far as possible.
The Bathroom:
I don’t know if the rooms have a name but this room, the one we stayed in – is THE best. There may be no jacuzzi, but it does have a very traditional feel to it with the stone arch and design. The other 3 rooms are on the same floor. The two with jacuzzi face over the east coast of the island. You can look over the Aegean and also view Anafi island. We checked out the view from MOD’s terrace at one sunrise:

MOD Breakfasts
A healthy hearty breakfast is included to set you for the day in Santorini! We loved their signature Chickpea veggie omelette plus the fresh pressed juices and smoothies. Made with love by Christina herself. She wakes up every day to whip up some health food and serve it to guests of MOD.
We got our breakfast served up to our room daily, at the time we arranged. Chickpea omelettes, loaded avo toasts, choco-hazelnut layered pancakes, waffles, smoothie bowls, fruit platter and cookies – we had it all! Look at the gallery below:
Our favourites were the chickpea-omelette and avo-toast as they are savoury and tend to be quite filling. I personally loved the pancakes and all the fruity stuff too. There’s a French press and coffee in the room so we could make our morning coffee when we got up! Tea and a water boiler is available. Filtered water is freely available at the hotel and is filled for you daily. This is the best thing – we didn’t need to buy plastic bottled water. We carried our own 750ml reusable #coolbottles and Christina filled it before we went out.
The minibar serves its purpose well. There’s a variety of snacks and bars – healthy organic vegan – in addition to beverages like kombucha and local natural wine from Hatzidakis winery. The best minibar we’ve ever had!
MOD has a food menu too, in case you want to order something extra or even have lunch or dinner in your room.
”An eco-conscious gem of a boutique hotel in Firostefani.”
We are so happy to have been able to stay at MOD. Although they’re officially opening only in a month, Christina was happy to accommodate us as we have been in touch since earlier this year. Two of the rooms are ready and the other two are almost done! Since we’ve been following them for a while and have stayed there when the hotel is still being built – we got to see the work and passion behind this hotel.
Visit Santorini and go stay at MOD! We’d love to go back when the hotel is completely ready.

Love the earthy minimalism. And the views are stunning. It’s so wonderful that more and more places are offering fully vegan stays now. I’ll have to check this place out when I plan my Greece trip.
