Continuing on my Helsinki vegan guide, let me tell you about the cafés in town! There are around five vegan cafes in Helsinki and you need to check these out. We have a couple of art cafés – who doesn’t love some art along with a cup of coffee? We also have a yoga café – yoga, coffee and vegan desserts, another combination of things I like! A list of our favourite vegan cafés in Helsinki:
1. Encanto Art Café
Maneesikatu 1-3, 00170 Helsinki
Located in the elegant Kruununhaka district, this makes a perfect location for travellers. You’ll find the entrance at the corner of the street, welcoming you into this cosy little art café. The space isn’t too large, there are 6-8 tables, surrounded by artworks on the walls. They have galleries by local artist on display.

Encanto is relatively new to the scene. They have all day breakfast, toasties, speciality coffees and serve only plant milk including oat and soy milk (because who still wants to drink milk from an actual cow?).
We went with the breakfast combo of croissant, muesli yoghurt, cinnamon bun (pulla) with a cappuccino. You can choose 3 items for €8. The service is nice, portions are just about enough, toasties are homemade style — would indeed recommend this café! Open on Wednesdays to Sundays for brunch. Pet friendly.
2. Kahvila Rakastan
Mannerheimintie 13 b, 00100 Helsinki
Among the good news this year is that this Helsinki based cute little villa café, became fully plant-based! Kahvila Rakastan means Café I Love, and it’s located near the Finnish National Museum and Oodi library — a lovely place to meet up with friends!

This is the only place I know in Helsinki that offers traditional Finnish Karelian pies (see pic) veganised. I tried the rye-potato pie topped with tofu ‘egg’ and seaweed caviar. It was a savoury treat – very salty but enjoyable! They also serve soup lunches and other plant-based pastries. Highly recommend this place when in Helsinki! Open Tuesday to Sunday 10AM-5PM.
3. Roots Vallila
Eurantie 8-10, 00550 Helsinki

This is a yoga studio & vegan café, where I’ve actually been for yoga classes and after, enjoyed a wholesome lunch combo! Sometimes, of course, I’ve just popped in for a coffee and bite too — they always have some cakes and treats. They also do All Day Breakfast, lunch bowls and bagels.
Open on Monday to Friday 8 – 17:30, Saturdays 9 – 15.
4. Be Mine (closed) Vegalicious Pastry
Newly opened *2025* vegan café and pastry shop (we are yet to check out) Vegalicious is located in downtown Helsinki! Pop in for a treat — they have cupcakes, cheesecakes, cream buns and coffee – everything looks great!

5. Round Donut Café (*vegan donuts only)
*different locations in Helsinki – KAMPPI, PUNAVUORI, TRIPLA*

Round is the first donut café in Helsinki. Donuts and coffee? Hell yeah! How lucky are we to have *HAD* a fully vegan donut café in town? Even though I’m not a huge fan of donuts myself, who can resist this trendy little café? (Honestly, I only stopped by several times to grab a coffee or donut to support a fully vegan business..)

UPDATE JUNE 2025: I am very disappointed to hear them starting to sell animal products to save the business. Adding unethical and unsustainable choices will never be a positive move in my opinion, and whether they survive as a business or not, they have lost what was special — standing for something. Moreover, their reasoning is unacceptable. Claiming to increase customer base as being 100% vegan limits diversity (umm what!?). @Round ”In a world facing increasing conflict and division, we believe greater flexibility and understanding are needed” — serving products of animal exploitation will never be a positive solution!
Vegans have few spaces where they can order anything off the menu and take friends & fam to try plant-based treats. Personally, I have no motivation to choose Round over other ”general” cafés anymore. If you do come across a Round, know that all their donuts remain vegan. They stock a variety of donuts with different flavours and toppings (sweet apple cinnamon, caramel hazelnut donut, raspberry pistachio..). I wish they kept some standard donuts, such as a classic chocolate. Donuts are pricey, about €4 each, you can get combo boxes. There are vegan croissants and bagels as well.
Vegan cafés in Helsinki
This was our pick of vegan cafes in Helsinki! We’ve had such amazing places over time (remember Tartine, the French vegan café?). Let’s hope they come back some day!

In memory of Tartine Helsinki.
