Sundays Hotel – vegan haven in Phnom Penh

Sundays Cambodia is a vegan hotel in Phnom Penh – a literal haven for travellers visiting the bustling capital of Cambodia! The boutique hotel opened doors just under a year ago, and they also have a café open to all – serving great coffee and the most delicious food.

#SeeYouAtSundays

When planning our trip to Cambodia, we came across several vegan-friendly hotels, and when we found Sundays, we had to stay here in Phnom Penh! (they also had an opening offer, available when booking directly via their website).

About Sundays..

Sundays was created as a home away from home by couple Tamsin & Darren. A classical Cambodian style building was renovated and the interiors repurposed. Following a zero-waste approach, they prioritize reusing and recycling materials, transforming it into something new and beautiful. See the transformation in this reel.

Darren is Cambodian (Australian-born) and wanted to return to the neighbourhood where his parents grew up and open a small vegan café offering good coffee & food.

When we first found the building, we dismissed it. It was too big and grand for our concept. Until our ideas kept growing, and we ended up with the Sundays you see now! Our hotel is one of a kind, and we love that it’s become a cornerstone of Cambodia’s growing vegan scene. It’s our little slice of vegan luxury.

The bright facade warmly welcomes you as you arrive in the neighbourhood. I love discovering these gems around the world, built by people who share similar values to ours, and that reminds me what Veganhaven Travel is all about : )

Location

#7C STREET 464, TOUL TOM POUNG PHNOM PENH

Sundays Hotel and Vegan Café is situated in the tranquil residential neighbourhood of Toul Tom Poung in Phnom Penh. Just a 15-minute tuk-tuk ride away from major attractions like the Royal Palace, its location proved convenient for us to explore. Whether it was visiting tourist sights, strolling along the riverside, accessing the bus station, exploring markets, or dining at restaurants, we found it easy to navigate from here.

Download Grab app for transportation in Cambodia – it’s very useful and the only app we needed to book tuk tuks to get around town.

Sundays Café

Along with the hotel is also Sundays Café, open for all. The kitchen is open 8am – 8:30pm. Your booking includes a complimentary morning coffee, so head down to the café to grab one before 11am. The café space is also free to relax, read or work in.

The Rooms

Check-in: 2pm ; Check-out: 11am

Spacious – Earthy – Minimal – Modern

These are the words we’d use to describe the beautiful rooms at Sundays! They have 3 room types: Queen, Studio and a Solo. We stayed in Sundays Queen;

Love the spacious, high ceiling and minimalist style room! Also love the pillow mist – a little something to make your stay extra pleasant. The Studio looks amazing as well, and includes a bathtub in the room – definitely going to check it out next time around, and maybe stay a few more days.

Some notable features of the rooms:

  • ✔️ solar-powered
  • ✔️ eco & ethical products in room
  • ✔️ designed with zero waste concept
  • ✔️ modern interior with classic elements
  • ✔️ comfy beds!

Breakfast & Dining

As I mentioned earlier, morning coffee/tea is complimentary for hotel guests, so you can order a hot beverage at the café in the morning. Breakfast can be ordered separately from the café menu. Filtered water and tea is available 24/7 at the reception. It was great that we could just refill our bottles whenever we went out!

The evening before we left, I was about to order pancakes, but Darren suggested I try their Coconut Pandan waffles. Thank goodness, because it turned out to be the most delicious waffles I remember having! They were fluffy, soft yet crispy on the edges, and topped perfectly with scoops of coconut ice cream.

The menu also has several other delicious options of Cambodian fusion food; small plates, sandwiches, bowls and dessert. Check the menu here.

Other vegan options in Phnom Penh

I plan to make a vegan travel guide to Cambodia (yay! A new destination on the blog, outside Europe, finally): Phnom Penh & Siem Reap, but meanwhile here are some spots (besides Sundays) to dine at when you head out in Phnom Penh:

For any other tips and info, Darren at Sundays is sure to help you! He has lots of knowledge about Phnom Penh and practically planned our 2-day itinerary for us!
