Best 5 Asian Vegan Restaurants in Helsinki

Helsinki food scene post - starting with 5 fully plant-based restaurants serving flavourful Asian food. These are also probably the only Asian restaurants in Helsinki that are vegan..

Here comes a long overdue post about the food scene in the capital. Starting with 5 fully plant-based restaurants serving flavourful Asian food. These are also probably the only Asian restaurants in Helsinki that are vegan, or we are yet to discover the others. Find a map of selected spots at the bottom of this post! Our 5 picks:

1- Thai Vegan Kitchen

Lapinlahdenkatu 9, 00100 Helsinki
best Asian restaurants Helsinki

There’s already a post dedicated to Thai Vegan Kitchen on my blog, because they are awesome. A food truck turned restaurant that serves hot tasty authentic Thai food in central Helsinki. They also offer delivery at times and a catering service. Check out their page for more info on the day’s special etc. More details about the food they offer on this post.

*NOTE* They have now opened a branch called Peace Kitchen in Kallio; Pengerkatu 24, 00500 Helsinki, where you can find tasty noodle bowls as well as some of their usual dishes!

2- Loving Hut

Kolmas linja 17, 00530 Helsinki

The Helsinki restaurant of the Loving Hut worldwide chain of restaurants has been a go-to lunch place for many in Kallio district. They used to have a 10€ all-you-can-eat lunch buffet on weekdays (pre-covid) and are open on weekends as well, with a long a-la-carte menu to choose from. It’s a calm cafeteria style restaurant. They’re all about veganism & peace.

The staff is limited thesedays and we’ve seen just the one lady doing everything, so you need to be patient. You can watch the ‘Supreme Master tv’ they have on, which is rather interesting.. we’d say. But the food is delicious and we were not expecting it when we first went there. We eat here often now. The a-la-carte has a long list of things. Absolutely love the starters, esp. the satay skewers (soy based). For mains there is just so much to choose from. The wonton soup is my favourite. If you’re lucky you will find some tiramisu cake!

3- Vegoshi (RIP)

We recently dined at the – quite new to Helsinki – Vegoshi in Kluuvi. A great location near the Helsinki University city centre campus. The restaurant itself is a vibrant and calming space situated in a food court in Kluuvi shopping centre. They go under ‘Healthy, plant-based, Asian food’. The menu consists of whole food based bowls, rolls and dumplings.

This time we went in for the Nitari Set and a Tofushi bowl. I absolutely love their Vietnamese tofu – it’s so soft. The black rice is also something exotic. The beautiful Nitari set consisted of 8 teritake sushi rolls, a seitan garden roll, 2 kimchi and 2 tofu dumplings along with soy and peanut sauce.

*UPDATE JULY 2022*: Just read this message from their founder about the restaurant closing: https://www.instagram.com/p/CgHDBZXty_Y/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

4- Sen Chay

Siltasaarenkatu 3-5, 00530 Helsinki

Sen Chay Vietnamese restaurant has been around for a while and is a hidden gem in the Hakaniemi area. Helsinki peeps may be familiar with this place. It’s a small, modest place serving the typical south-east Asian food, pho, noodles, fried rice, stir friend veggies and plant protein. It states vegetarian restaurant but everything on the menu is dairy/egg-free too.

The prices are the usual for Helsinki, around 10-12€ for a meal, and the dishes are similar to those at Loving Hut but the menu is more limited. We haven’t been there since a while and need to go again soon to get some food (and photos to share).

Pho and red curry with tofu.

5- Brindavan Kasvisravintola

Kumpulantie 1, 00520 Helsinki

Brindavan in Pasila is another one we highly recommend! They offer plant-based lunch buffet with Indian style food – huge variety of warm dishes, salads and spreads. It’s a pay-by-weight lunch buffet. They are open on weekdays from 11- 14, please check out their website for accurate opening hours.

5- OmNam (RIP)

*EDIT* As of February 2021, Omnam has closed! We are extremely sad that Helsinki has lost yet another fine restaurant.

Ravintola OmNam serves Asian – European fusion style food for lunches and dinner in Kamppi area of Helsinki. They were the first vegan restaurant in Helsinki. I have been there especially on Thursdays because they have masala dosa on their lunch menu! Dosa is the no.1 home food I miss, living abroad. Few places in Helsinki serve South Indian food. OmNam’s dosa is unique, filling and full on flavour. It comes with side salad and sambar-dal and chutney.

Best Asian restaurants in Helsinki:

That’s for our picks of best Asian restaurants in Helsinki! Unfortunately, so many things have changed during these ‘covid times’, with restaurants permanently shutting down etc. – it’s impossible to keep this post updated at all times. Please check the pages of restaurants before you choose to dine there!

Ohmygoodness vegan café & yoga studio, Cargo restaurant, Villd, Soi Soi, Vibes by Vöner and now Omnam.. just to name a few great places that have closed permanently this year – please support your local vegan restaurants!
