Hotels in Tenerife – Vincci Tenerife Golf review

I started planning for our trip to Tenerife well in advance. We booked the hotels a couple of months before the trip and I can say that I spent a great amount of time researching places to stay. We stayed at Vincci Tenerife Golf for the first part of our trip.

This was our first time in Tenerife and I wanted to go through all options carefully, prioritising, of course, eco-friendly accommodations. A must for me was also sea-view/beachfront apartments or hotels. We found an Eco B&B to stay for the rest of the days but we decided to stay in a hotel for the first 3-nights.

Hotel Vincci Tenerife Golf

TRAVEL. LIVE. VINCCI. That’s the motto of Vincci hotels. Vincci Tenerife Golf is a 4 star hotel located in the town of San Miguel de Abona in southern Tenerife. They have double rooms, family rooms and suites available. See an introduction to our stay in the video above!

Location

Address: Oasis del Sur, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain 38639

The hotel is situated in Golf Del Sur, a fancy and beautifully maintained area with several resorts, near the Tenerife South airport. A taxi costs around 15€ from the airport. Vincci Tenerife Golf stands by the seaside facing La Tejita beach and mountain, which we also can see from the sea facing rooms.

There’s a lovely little market square with a shopping centre right in front of the hotel with an Irish pub, Indian restaurants, souvenir stores and HiperDino grocery shop. Don’t miss the cat charity second hand store!

Island Car Hire can provide you a car for your stay in Tenerife, in case you haven’t picked up a car from the airport already. Note that rates may be higher and pick-up and drop-off must be done at this point only. We rented a car for a few days and it cost 50€ per day – our mistake we didn’t book early enough – you can get cars (e.g. Cicar from airport) for 30€ per day.

Los Abrigos Village is within walking distance. A lovely wooden walkway takes you that way, along the sea. In the old village, you can find many pubs, restaurants and shops. La Tejita beach may be a bit too far to walk to, however.

Check-in

We arrived at Vincci with a taxi and waited in the elegant lobby for check-in. Official check-in time is 14:00 but our room wasn’t ready yet. The staff kindly asked us to wait. We waited over half an hour and it seemed that there was some issue. It would take some time for our room to be ready so the staff offered us lunch on the house at the hotel restaurant. This was perfect as we were looking to get lunch upon check-in. A good start to our stay after all!

Once we were done with lunch, our room was ready of course. Shout out to hotel cleaning staffs who put in a lot of work due to extra hygiene measures in place! We paid for our stay and checked-in.

Room

Superior sea-view room is where it’s at. I did contemplate on whether to go with a standard room type or go for the Superior. I really wanted a view. The Superior turned out to be a good choice! I think the higher floor (8th) made it even better. Check out the view of La Tejita from our balcony in the photos below!

Room rates: the Superior Seaview cost us 375€ for 3 nights, booked via Booking.com. You can check out rates and discounts for Vincci Tenerife Golf on Booking.com here:

Facilities and services

Vincci Tenerife Golf has an outdoor pool, a gym plus a spa offering massage and treatments (additional charge) as well. On one evening we found time to check out their Nammu Spa & Wellness centre. The spa can be booked for 1-hour private use and costs 12€/ person. It includes a lounge space, heated pool, showers, a steam room and sauna!

The steam room was out of use at that time (they gave us a little discount for it) but the seaview sauna was a good surprise! Our only complaint is that the spa wasn’t well maintained or cleaned. The wooden flooring was loose and broken in some parts, glass was dirty. I think they haven’t been fully operational since covid and thus neglected it but now would be a good time renovate. We enjoyed our time in the spa and sauna, nonetheless.

Hotel Breakfast

Since this was a regular hotel, we expected a standard breakfast and were prepared to be disappointed. Even though the hotel has sustainability certifications, I didn’t think their buffet would be plant-based. So it was the usual sad English/American standard breakfast. Warm items did include roasted potatoes, mushrooms and baked beans, which was nice. Then there was cereal, fresh fruit and wholegrain bread. Organic soymilk was available next to coffee/tea. We didn’t request any special vegan options for the breakfast and just went along with what’s available. I’m not a big breakfast person, I can have a little bowl of cornflakes with fruit/juice or coffee and that’s about it.

The breakfast buffet is included in your stay and served in the restaurant downstairs. You can have it outdoors on their terrace if the weather’s good. If you stay here and wish to enjoy breakfast, I would suggest requesting vegan options beforehand!

Vincci Tenerife Golf – review summary

Pros:

  • Elegant & classy hotel with good ambience and interiors.
  • Sustainable steps (they recycle, reduce plastic use, option to reuse towels, use solar power, energy efficient lighting etc.)
  • Location in Golf del Sur, near TFS airport.
  • Room size. Superior room was spacious and comfortable.
  • The view from the sea-view room and proximity to sea.

Cons:

  • Rooms and bathrooms were a bit dated.
  • The spa could use some renovation and cleaning.
  • Basic room facilities, a small fridge but no minibar, we had to request a kettle.
  • Pool closes early. While we were there the pool ‘closed’ 5PM.
  • English service could be better.
  • Breakfast. To be sustainable, they need to have plant-based breakfast.

I did not realise Tenerife was this far from the mainland. Also, for within the island, any chance you can add a little map and trace your travel route, so we know better where you were? Thanks 😊
